Briess Rye extract is made with Base Malt, Rye Malt, and Caramel 40L, which means a simple Rye beer can be made without any other grain additions. Also a great "test" beer for becoming accustomed to the flavor of Rye extract.

Oh yes, did rye LME "test batch" to learn just what "spicy" means. Used rye extract, .5# carapils, Kent Goldings hops, and Safale US-05. Made a good ale, but would not make 100% rye ale again. Adding 3-5% rye grain in my all grain Kentucky Cream and Kentucky Common adds a certain mystery spiciness that always gets compliments.
