Use as a filter for your autosiphon instead! |

Originally I purchased to use for dry hopping in a carboy. It worked OK but hop pellets tend to expand and basically compact in the tube even with only one ounce. Once they form a solid plug in one end, its really hard to clean out. I was pretty disappointed. But..
This thing fits over an autosiphon perfectly! I now dry hop beer directly in my carboy, and then just use this as a filter when racking. I have used this to filter 1oz per gallon dry hopping rates with really good success. This will clog a bit once you are at the very bottom siphoning through hop sludge, but its possible to use a tubing crimp/ clamp to slow the flow in order to match the volume of beer coming in. By no means is this perfect but its the best "filter" I have used when siphoning.
Otherwise, this thing will work great in its intended use for other herbs, spices etc that won't form a compact mess like hops.
